University Square

University Square is the most famous square in Romania! Here are the buildings of the University of Bucharest, and it is two steps away from the Old Town! Located at the zero kilometer of the Capital, the University of Bucharest palace, built in neoclassical style, was erected on the site of the former Saint Sava Monastery, the cells of this place of worship being witnesses to the beginning of national education. Within the University, 19 faculties operate, where approximately 32,000 students study. In  University Square  took place  between April 22  and June 15, 1990, the largest protest in Romania's history and the biggest anti-communist demonstration in Eastern Europe, after the fall of the Iron Curtain. University Square is an important square in Bucharest, its shape is influenced by the Haussmannian model of the “Grand Intersection”.
