Izvor Park is one of the youngest green spaces in Bucharest, located on the right bank of the Dambovita River, near the Palace of Parliament. On this leveled site, the construction of a large conference hall was initially intended, but following the outbreak of the Revolution, the project was abandoned. The location had remained at the stage of vacant land. Later, the City Hall laid out several asphalted alleys, planted trees and gave the space the name Izvor Park.
The park has a rectangular shape, an area of 170,000 sqm and is bordered by United Nations Boulevard, Liberty Boulevard, Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu Street and Independence Embankment. In its immediate vicinity is one of the capital's main metro stations, Izvor station.
The park consists of 4 main alleys, adjacent alleys and lawn-covered spaces. As part of the project “Bucharest in the European Green Space”, carried out in 2009, 30 plane trees were planted. In May 2010, the Bucharest City Hall set up a playground for children. Within it, there is a miniature castle, called the “Children's Parliament”, and numerous entertainment facilities, including for children with disabilities. Next to this place, there are fitness machines and ping-pong tables. In 2011, the Bucharest City Hall together with a group of volunteers completed the action of planting over 320 trees.
Izvor Park has thus become a park frequently visited by the residents of the capital, being the ideal space for relaxation and recreation. Those who often walk on the park's alleys also practice numerous activities such as jogging, running, fitness. Every year, shows and festivals are organized here.
