On October 17, 1850, the Faculty of Law was established within the study group at the Saint Sava National College. The first class of jurists was recorded in 1854. On November 25, 1859, by princely decree, the Faculty of Law became an independent institution, its first dean being Constantin Bosianu. In 1864, Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza approved the establishment of the University of Bucharest. This was achieved by bringing together the three existing faculties: the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Sciences, and the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy.
Between 1934 and 1936, the current headquarters, the Palace of the Faculty of Law, was built according to the designs of the great architect Petre Antonescu. This construction was carried out with funds collected at the initiative of Dean Basilescu and with subsidies from King Carol II. The relevant ministry also provided support. This would not have been possible without the efforts of the professors, graduates, and students of this faculty.
Since 1990, the Faculty of Law has further enhanced the prestige it enjoys. The number of students has increased considerably, and the courses are organized within a single profile. This is represented by the Legal Sciences specialization, with a single specialization - Law, 4 years of full-time study. For part-time courses, the duration of study was 5 years. In the 2004-2005 academic year, the part-time form of education was discontinued. Thus, courses are organized in the distance learning system.
The Faculty is part of prestigious international networks, such as the Rotterdam Law Network (composed of 30 higher education institutions).
The Faculty has an elite teaching staff with vast teaching and scientific experience. The faculty's teaching staff are capable of instilling in students the knowledge required to carry out legal activities. Under their guidance, students manage to understand the legal environment in which they operate and to synthesize its specific features.
